Philanthropy
Philanthropy has scheduled another location for the Third Saturday of the Month Sewing Day. We have June, July & August confirmed. The dates are June 19th, July 17th & August 21st. The time is from 10:00am to 3:00pm. Please contact or see Lee Hart for new address and directions. Please come and sew, there are always many items to work on.
Each meeting will be held at the Temecula Valley Sewing Center, 28780 Old Town Front Street, Temecula, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Motivated quilt-makers are welcome to stay longer.
Charm
Squares
Charm Squares can vary in size, but a typical “pack” purchased from a quilt shop may have forty 5” x 5” (five by five inch) squares from a delineated line of fabric. At each meeting a charm square swap is arranged for guild members who choose to take part, for the purpose of increasing the variety of fabrics available for use in a quilt without buying a multitude of fabric to achieve the desired effect. It takes 72 charm squares for a 48” x 48” lap-sized quilt with 2-inch, and 4 ½ inch borders, respectively, so with three months’ participation, enough fabrics selections could be accumulated in order to begin assembling a quilt.
This year we are swapping 24 (twenty-four) 5 x 5 (five by five) inch squares cut from one or more pieces of fabric for each track selection. One-half (1/2) yard of quilter’s high-quality unwashed fabric with selvages trimmed away will provide sufficient fabric to cut twenty-four (24) five by five inch (5x5”) squares. Select a fabric of the same quality you would like to receive, either from your already well-established stash, or a new purchase. Slip your twenty-four charm squares into a small zip-lock bag labeled with your name, bring them to our next meeting to exchange, and see what you find in the way of variety the following month. The only requirement is that you choose from one or both of the following tracks.

Block of the
Month
Welcome to Block of the Month for 2009!
We are going to do every block in scraps! What a great way to use up all
those little pieces of fabric. Super easy, the patterns are perfect for
beginners or experts with tons of scraps. Each month, a different pattern will
be included in the newsletter, or you can get a pattern at the guild
meeting.
Just make as many blocks as you want and turn them in each month. We will
have a drawing for the winner of submitted blocks at each guild meeting. Each
month, we’ll hold back one block for philanthropy, and at the end of the year,
they’ll have enough for a quilt top.
The only requirement on the blocks is that the background pieces be a neutral
or beige fabric.
Merchandise
Purchase tickets and select the item that you would like to win. At the
end of the meeting the tickets will be drawn. The more tickets you purchase the
better your odds are of winning.
Monthly
Mini
Purchase tickets for the opportunity to win the
monthly mini. The monthly mini is made by a guild member and they are absolutely
fantastic.
Library
Library materials will be loaned to members for one month.
Library materials will be available at each general meeting.
The Library
has books, patterns and magazines.
Door Prizes
Members bring door prizes to the meeting during their birthday
month. Members also bring a snack during their birthday month.
Hospitality
Water & snacks will be available at all general guild meetings.
Friendship
Groups
Friendship Groups are forming all the time. Please
contact the chairperson if you are interested in joining a friendship group.
